Web Masters are proud of their work until they hear from Google

iphone-ipadGoogle’s webmaster tools (now known as the Search Console) have been around for a long time. They are the link between the developer and Google.

These tools provide insights to the search queries that occur on Google in relation the client sites that are registered. Confirmation that the development work meets the criteria of the search engine is also available in these tools.

There are timely notifications from Google that remind the developer when the code is getting out-of-date.

Although not all clients can afford to maintain their web sites, these reminders show the importance that they should.

We recently posted a link on our Facebook page about the new ranking signal that Google will soon apply to websites in their index. As webmasters we will start to receive warnings when our client sites are not mobile friendly.

Work that has been completed in recent years should automatically be developed for smart devices (see our article Is your website a good User Experience on Smart Devices?) However, as most websites are 3 or 4 years old, it puts them in the category of not being mobile friendly.

In the week leading up to Christmas, Apple drive more than half of the sales of mobile devices via account activations.

2014-retail-ecommerce-metricsSmartphones accounted for nearly one-third of the US holiday retail ecommerce traffic. Although, mobile is yet to overtake the traditional desktop for holiday online shopping, this is a clearly indication that websites need to be mobile ready. Check out the table for more detail.
